DWI is a manufacturer of wood casework (cabinets) primarily used in science facilities, for both teaching and research. Some of Dave’s professional activities include:

  • Seven years on the board of directors of the Scientific Equipment & Furniture Association (SEFA) including as Chair of the Board of Directors.
  • A term on the Board of Review for the Quality Standards Illustrated of the Architectural Woodwork Institute (AWI).
  • Regular member of the judging panel for the Laboratory of the Year competition sponsored by R&D Magazine.
  • Article of the Year author, Pharmaceutical Engineering magazine, 2004, “New Laboratory Design Helps Speed Up Research”
  • Additional articles written for G.I.T. Laboratory Journal (Germany), Laboratory Design Trends – A View from North America; Associations Now, Do You Want Me To Exhibit Or Don’t You: and co-authored with Frank Schillinger a chapter on Laboratory Furnishings in Building Type Basics for Research Laboratories by Daniel D. Watch.
  • Citation regarding formaldehyde emissions by Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in Interim Report: VOC and Aldehyde Emissions in Four FEMA Temporary Housing Units (2008).
  • Past speaker at industry meetings such as the School Construction Expo, R&D Council of International Facilities Managers Association, Project Kaleidoscope, Biotechnology Buildings, and others.

Dave has an SB in Management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an MBA from the University of Dubuque. (He also claims a PhD in Experience from the School of Hard Knocks!)
